Bille worked and experimented with many painting techniques, including realism, impressionism and pointillism. In his early days he traveled a lot in France, where he did a long series of charming café and street scenes from Paris. He later also traveled around Scandinavia where he primarily worked on portraits, land and seascapes. Due to personal mental issues, Bille slowed down his painting in 1930 and later only worked when he was pressured by public demand.
