Janssen was educated at the Royal academy of arts in 1885. Pupil of P.S Kroyers and attended his school in 1891. Later educated at Academy Ranon, Paris in 1909. Janssen worked primarily with sunlit farm landscapes and figure scenes, but is also known for his excellent portraits, where the most famous ones are his children portrays and Janssens portray of the Danish Philosopher Soren Kirkegaard. The works of Janssen are known for their great details and their many layers of paints that gives the scene a special unique light and atmosphere. His works often contain many fine impressionistic brushstrokes filled with numerous colors giving the finished scene a dreamy look. Janssen became very popular for his series of bright colorful works and opened his own art school together with fellow Danish impressionist Viggo Pedersen. Some of their pupils were : Inger Birgitte Antoinette Müller (1873-1965), Erika Marie Ingeborg Seidelin ( 1872-1914) and Christine Nissen-Sommersted ( 1883-1935). In 1905, Janssen became a professor at the Royal Academy where he taught in arts and model. Besides Teaching, Janssen also functioned as chairman of many art groups and exhibitions. Janssen worked primarily in Scandinavia but he also traveled and worked in Germany from 1880. Rome from 1899. Paris and southern France from 1909 and Greenland from 1925.
