A pupil of H. Grønvold from 1906, Kunert was educated at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1917, where he was a pupil of Viggo Johansen, L. Tuxen, V. Hammershøi and Jul. Paulsen. Kunert was a naturalist and worked primarily with open landscapes, beach and forest scenes. Kunert purchased the manor house “ Trongaarden” in 1918. There he began a small artists colony along with his artists friends: Wilhelm Scharff, Hugo Liisberg and V. Haagen-Müller. Kunert is known for his special lights and often worked outdoor at dawn or at the early afternoon. Besides Denmark, Kunert also worked during the summers in Norway and traveled often to Italy, Spain and Germany from 1922. Ove Kunert was a favorite at the Academy and was exhibited at Charlottenborg every year from 1914-1973.
