Walseth was brought up in a home filled with paintings as both his parents were painters. He was educated at Teknisk Skole (the Technical School) in Denmark, where the old painter Jacob Meyer inspired him to carry on the traditions from the great old painters at Charlottenborg.Walseth has highly influenced by the masters, Peder Mønsted and H. A Brendekilde and continued their tradition in portraying sunlit landscapes and exteriors. His motifs were everything from small fishing village in Zealand to motifs he found on his many journeys to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Bayern and Norway, where he also exhibited.
