Bjerre was educated at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1881 and attended the artists study school in 1889 where he was a pupil of Laurits Tuxen. Bjerre is known for his realistic portray of people and landscapes. As a young artist he read many books by Tolstoy and felt that art should be done for the people and not only to impress the art critics. Bjerre traveled and worked in Italy from 1899 and in Paris and Auvergne until 1915.
Bjerres works has been exhibited worldwide and was included in famous Northern Lights exhibition in United states from 1982-1983.
