Rasmussen was called the grandfather of Dyrehaven and is well-known for his scenes from Dyrehaven (A large forest area and nature park in Denmark.) Rasmussen was born near the Dyrehaven and spend most of his life studying and painting the large old trees and the wild deer’s who lived there. Rasmussens landscapes from Dyrehaven are especially known for their excellent portrait of the morning or afternoon sun setting on the trees and Rasmussen’s special use of light and shadows. Rasmussen was one of the first to be called a Dyrehaven artist and co founded in 1915 the famous art union “Dyrehavens malere / The artists of Dyrehaven”. Rasmussen’s landscapes were very popular and were exhibited in all the Art Unions exhibitions from 1915 to his death in 1971.
