Larsen was educated at the Royal art academy in 1883. Larsen begun his carrier by working on landscapes from Jutland where his colours and light was compared to the work of artists like Hans Smith and Vilhelm Kyhn. Later Larsen worked primarily with figure scenes and was known for his excellent use of impressionism. Larsen was highly influenced by the artists P.S Kröyer, Th. Philipsen and L.A Ring whom he knew and admired. Larsen became known for his excellent series of portraits of famous Danish actors, ministers and nobles. They were considered very unique and gave an amazing insight in the persons psychology and behaviour. Besides Scandinavia, Larsen also worked and travelled in England: 1889, Germany: 1891, Italy: 1898 and Paris: 1899. Larsen was been exhibited in all around Scandinavia, Europe and the United states.
