Educated at the artists study school in 1884. Pupil of Frans Schwartz and Kristian Zahrtmann. Larsen primarily painted birds and landscapes. Besides painting Larsen also illustrated numerous books on the life and habitat of birds. Larsen was very famous and received many awards and prices for his works. Besides Denmark, Larsen painted and travelled in Italy: 1898, Paris: 1905, United States: 1907, Greenland: 1925, United Kingdom: 1934, and Holland: 1954.
