Baron Holmfeld was one of the great artists of the Danish golden age. Holmfeld was educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1855 and a pupil of Hans Gude and Zahrtmann. Holmfeld worked mostly with traditional farm landscapes and animal portraits. Holmfeld worked an traveled in Germany 1863-1874 and Greenland in 1886. Holmfeld later traveled to Seattle in United States in 1890 where he stayed until his death in 1912. Holmfeld has been exhibited at Charlottenborg from 1858- 1883. Holmfeld oil paintings are considered very rare and can almost only be found in private art collections.
