Helge Jacobsen was one of the Great Danish visionary artists of his time. Besides painting he also was a known Jazz guitarist, poet and sculptor. Jacobsen started painting and playing Jazz during the forties while Denmark was occupied by Germany. Jazz music during the 40ties had a great influence on many Danes because it symbolized freedom and the friendship with America. Jacobsen is most famous for his abstract still life’s and modern composition where he with wild colors and figures portrayed the feeling of Jazz. Jacobsen painted while listing to music and worked to capture the feeling of Swing and Jazz to his artworks. Later Jacobsen did a famous series of artworks inspired of Africa, they became known as “The Jungle Fantasies”.
Jacobsen has been exhibited numerous times in Denmark. He has also been exhibited in Sweden, The United states and at Gallery Roman in Paris. Helge Jacobsen formed the Jazz band “Giraf- trio” and has performed with many famous Jazz singers like the American Jazz singer and Trumpeter Miss Valaide Snow.
