Rasmussen was a pupil of the Royal decorator Schroeder-Nielsen and later educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1905. Rasmussen worked primarily with city scenes that are known for their soft colours and summer lights. He later became a renowned portraits artist and known for his friendly and charming portrait of his models. Rasmussen worked and travelled in Germany, Austria, Turkey and Greece in 1908, and to Italy, France and the Nederland’s between 1909 and 1913. Besides working with canvas, Rasmussen also worked with décor for buildings around Denmark. The national gallery requested Rasmussen to do a number of works. One of his most known works was the décor for the town hall in the city of Odense, where he worked together with Johannes Larsen.
