Educated at the School of Zahrtmann in 1888. Knudsen was primarily a landscape artist and known for his sunlit scenes from northern Jutland in Denmark. In the beginning of Knudsen’s carrier his works was compared to the artist L.A.Ring. Both artists focused on realism and worked with great accuracy. Later Knudsen befriended the artist Albert Gottschalck with whom he worked and traveled with for many years. Knudsen worked with many different painting methods and in his later years his scenes got more lighter and brighter and closer to impressionism. Knudsen is known for his landscapes but is also known to have done portraits and interiors.
