Kraul was educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1887 and was later a pupil of the royal decorator Hansen Kjaer. Krauls paintings are known for their charming style and their romantic quality. Kraul was a naturalist but always added nostalgia to his paintings and artworks. From 1880-1896 Kraul traveled to Egypt, turkey, Germany and Greece. Kraul also worked for a long time in Bucharest where he did decorations in their churches. Besides painting, Kraul also worked with poster designs, book covers and decorated ceramic pieces. Kraul has been exhibited at the World Fair in Paris and at the Royal Art Museum in Berlin.
