Fritz Johannes Bentzen-Bilkvist was born in Oslo, Norway in 1865.He attended the Royal art academy in Denmark and was a pupil of the master painters P.S Kroyer, L. Tuxen and Fr. Schwartz. Bilkvist also became a close friend of the artist Godfred Christensen who inspired Bilkvist to work on Danish landscapes. Bentzen Bilkvist traveled a lot in Denmark to paint and was known for his detailed and romantic landscapes from Zealand and “himmel bjerget”. Besides working with landscapes Bilkvist also worked as a decorative porcelain painter at Bing & Grondahl and made many drawings and designs to both furniture’s and lamps.
