Educated at the Artists Study School, and a pupil of P.S Kröyer and Kr. Zahrtmann,
Saersløv was a naturalistic artist and primarily worked with landscapes and village scenes from about Europe. Saersløv was especially fond of Italy and worked and lived there in 1898, 1906, 1933 and 1937. Besides Italy Saersløv also travelled in Russia and United Kingdom in 1900, and in Paris in 1912.
