Erik Hoppe is considered to be one of the greatest artists of recent times, thanks to his splendid colour studies. His paintings reflect a remarkable ability to bring the colors into full play and to reach the optimal effect of contrasts. In particular, Hoppe is known for his studies at the Copenhagen park, Soendermarken. To many great contemporary artists, such as Per Kirkeby and H.Voigt-Steffensen he is quite an icon, thus the nickname “the Painter of all Painters”. Hoppe was educated at the royal art academy in 1918 and was a pupil of Gustav Vermehren and Rostrup Böyesen. He traveled to Paris, Norway and Italy.
