Jacobsen was a very sensitive and melancholic artist. He is mostly known for his many powerful cityscapes from Copenhagen where he portrayed many of Copenhagen’s lesser fortuned people. Jacobsen also did a long series of melancholic funeral scenes and landscapes from cementer’s. Jacobsen was especially fond of portraying outdoor hard work, like farmers or common city workers.
