Educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1890, then a teacher at the Academy from 1900-1926, Tilemann-Petersen worked primarily with interiors and was known for his historical portrays of old famous castles, estates and cathedrals. Tilemann-Petersen worked and travelled all over Europe. Before Tilemann-Petersens death in 1926 he donated five interiors to the Museum of Frederiksborg which were exhibited next to models of the buildings he worked on.
