Carl W Petersen was born in poverty and with sickness. This severely prohibited him to function regularly as a artist. He was a pupil of Zahrtmann and attended his art school from 1903-08. Carl mostly worked on landscapes and known especially for his landscapes from “Odsherred and from the cost of Zealand. After Carls death in 1940 his true fame and talent was reveled when many of his works was purchased by both the king of Denmark and the king of Norway. The Danish Prince Knud also own several works by Carl W. Petersen.

Carl W. Petersen only painted a few paintings due to sickness. His oils today are rare and very sought after.
