Schleisner was educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1833 and a pupil of J.L.Lund and C.A. Jensen. Schleisner travelled to Munich in 1841 where he joined the popular Danish colony of artists. Schleisner specialised in vivid and emotional scenes and was famous for his many comical and charming portraits of farmers, bar keepers and store owners. Schleisner belonged to the art group called “The Europeans”. Other members of the group included J. Friedlaender, N. Simonsen and D. Monies.
